Dry Ingredients needed

The dry ingredients needed for these cookies include:

  • Oat flour – one of my favorite flours to use in my baking recipes because it’s healthy. In addition, it works well in a lot of baking recipes. My favorite oat flour brand to use is by Arrowhead Mills. It’s high quality and organic.
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Cocoa powder – is naturally fat free and widely used in many baked goods and desserts.
  • Quick cooking oats – I usually use rolled oats when baking, but I felt that the smaller texture of the quick-cooking oats would work better in these cookies.
  • Ground flaxseed – I can’t begin to tell you how much I love adding this to many of my recipes. It’s super good for you (contains omega 3s) and you can’t even taste it at all in the final product.
  • Light brown sugar – while creating this recipe; I wavered on whether to use regular cane sugar or light brown sugar. In the end I chose the brown sugar, and it worked perfectly in the cookies.
  • Mini chocolate chips (dairy-free or regular) – I just prefer the smaller size, but I’m sure regular chocolate chips would also work.

Wet ingredients needed

  • A little melted butter (dairy-free or regular) – I try not to use a lot of butter or oil in my recipes in order to keep them healthy.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce – Most of the time in my recipes, I use unsweetened applesauce in place of an unhealthy amount of fats such as oil and butter.
  • Milk – I usually use dairy free milk when baking. It’s not that I’m vegan, but I respect most aspects of the vegan diet. You can also use regular milk if you prefer.

This double chocolate oatmeal cookie recipe is so easy to make, you only need one bowl, and they bake for only 10-12 minutes. Last but not least, they’re absolutely yummy.

  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
  • 2 tsp ground flaxseed
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup and 3 tsp dairy-free or regular milk


  • Combine all ingredients thoroughly in large bowl (using your fingers helps here)
  • Form into 10 medium-sized cookies and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Top with more chocolate chips if desired..
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes.
